How to use the Scenario Builder tool
Scenario Builder helps you optimise the planting area for a potential carbon project by comparing projected revenue from your current land use with projected revenue from carbon over time. It provides clear, side‑by‑side projections so you can make informed, data‑driven decisions that balance sustainability and profitability.
Create a scenario
From the Overview page, create a new scenario to refine the baseline Planting Area defined from your (lite) Land Assessment.
- Details : Give your scenario a clear Name and optional Description.
- Project area: Select the area you want to assess for carbon return (where you want to plant).
- Current land use: Specify the current land use for that same area to compare returns against the carbon pathway. Note: To compare multiple land‑use types, create additional scenarios - one per land‑use type.
To enable the comparison with your current land‑use returns, the tool estimates the average carbon return using the carbon market price. This provides a consistent per‑hectare view across scenarios. You can adjust the carbon market price (set to $54 by default) on the Details and Compare pages.
Compare scenarios
You can create as many scenarios as you like. On the Compare page, select 2 or 3 scenarios to review side‑by‑side.
What you’ll see:
- Per‑hectare returns (carbon vs. current land use), shown annually and across the project lifecycle.
- Project net position for each scenario: estimated costs alongside estimated returns, making it easier to identify which scenario offers the greatest overall value.
